HTK Wk3 D5

Took a rest day, not because it's scheduled on HTK, but because I want to put in another hard running session tomorrow. One week and 2 days away from my next Spartan race. Feeling a little under prepared at this point in that I did not put in the hill or trail work that I was hoping to by this point. This race is going to be on a private 270,000 acre ranch just North of LA. It's a pretty epic place that you can buy passes to for hunting and camping. I expect it to be brutal.

I haven't gotten all the hill or trail work in, but I do feel like my endurance is looking good. If it was a flat'ish course I'd be feeling more confident.

Gave myself a break and slept in an hour until my wife's alarm clock went off. She was so confused to see me in bed when she woke up.

1 mile school walk with the little ones

20 min foam roll, lacrosse ball, stretching, mobility

Place looks amazing! Nice rolling foothills. Nothing that should put the fear of death in you. If you can get in 2-3 trail/hill runs in the next couple weeks you should be in good shape. Look back on your own logs and you'll see you've been on a pretty good tear for training. One of the hardest hitters in here lately for sure.

hahaha, foothills. I already know that I'm going to be saying to myself, Dan called these foothills!

Without fail, almost anytime I'm running downhill I have the thought, Dan said to remember to run downhill. Even during my last race.

PM Update -

Met up with some of my Team RWB teammates and planned for our Ragnar Relay Race in April. Ran another 2 miles.

Sun, 10/14/18

45 min Yoga/Stretching

Walked a couple miles with the kids

Mon, 10/15/18

HTK Wk4 D1

"Throttle 1.1"

10 Rounds or 30' Time Cap

Chair Deadlift  10x5(on 5th rep stand up)  115#

Thrusters   10x5   75#

Inverted Rows  10x10

L-Sits  10x30sec

Completed 8 Rounds / 30' Time Cap

Those Chair Deadlifts are tough. Did it in a sumo stance with my feet wide and turned out. Lost a good amount of skin on my shins from these too. L-sits were less than perfect. I held myself up on the Dip Bars, but sometimes had my legs straight, slightly straight, and then just pulling my knees up.

This week is supposed to be a deload week on HTK.

Without fail, almost anytime I'm running downhill I have the thought, Dan said to remember to run downhill. Even during my last race.

All things being relative... the last Spartan I did was up and down 3 peaks on a ski mountain. Deliberately cruel just because it was the last event they were holding there. Put a real sour taste in my mouth for the whole Spartan thing. And context... I ran downhill from the first peak no problems, but as soon as I started up the second side my legs cramped up so bad I could hardly move. The research I've done since then shows that the muscles and everything stretches out when running down, then everything contracts when you level out or start going up. The contraction is the painful part if your legs aren't used to it. From the pictures online I would guess they ranch owners wont let Spartan cut their own trails for the race, so you'll be on (guessing) some well established routes with nothing too crazy. You'll be fine...
