Feels SO good not to feel miserable outside!

Between the heat and the smoke in the air it's been almost 2 full months since being outside has been tolerable. First year I've actively avoided the sun because I didn't want to get burnt. Looking forward to an actual nice day too.

Monday 9.11.17 week 5 of 13
Wow..has it really been 16 years?

Squat 4x5x80%
45/135/225/335/335/335/335 x 5
That got real.

Bench 3x5x75%
45/135/215/215*/215* x 5
* pause reps. Left shoulder was twingy. Nothing easy today

DL 3x5x70%
135/225/305/305/305 x 5

Intervals w youngest
2 x 600m
2 x 400m
2 x 200m

Had to superset lifts in order to be done in time to wake the kid up to run. Had decided to ride the bike alongside him but he shamed me in to running w him. Soul cleansers for sure. The old man is torched.

Peace.

Wednesday 9.13.17 week 5/13

Pause squats 2x5x70%

45/135/225/290/290 pause reps all

superset with weighted dips

15-bw

12-50# 10-75# 10x75# 10x75#

OHP 4x5x80%

45/95/115/140/140/140/140 x 5

superset with:

chin ups-bodyweight

10/10/10/10

Weighted Pull-ups neutral grip

5/5/5 x 25#

Pendlay Rows

135/160/160/160/160 x 6

The battle is in the mind. It's always in the mind. 12 yr old tells me the other day that the hardest part about running in the morning was getting up. Once he "got up" the running itself wasn't bad. I didn't have the heart to tell him that "that" doesn't get easier.

12 year old me still doesn't like getting out of bed before it starts getting light out. But that's when the day is quiet and a man can be with his thoughts. Impressive as ever.

Friday 9.15.17 week5/13

Squat 3x5x75%
45/135/225/310/310/310 x 5
Dare I say it, I feel like I'm dialing in a good low bar squat form that Rippetoe might not make fun of.

Bench 4x5x80%
45/135/230 left shoulder iffy/230/230/230* x 5
*last 3 working sets MUCH better. Technique & foot placement was dialed in on all 3. Why does this seem so random sometimes.

DL
135/225/315/350 x 5
Don't think. Just lift it off the floor.

Reflecting...
I'm nailing all 3 working days. Injury free. Progressing slowly but surely and best of all, methodically.

Batting .000 on the other days. I've just got to reconcile with myself that I'm not who I was 2 years ago without conceding all of my barbarian principalities.

Going to put a pencil to a very achievable rather than idealistic schedule for the days of Tuesday Thursday and or Saturday. My biggest enemy is who I once was and thinking in terms of what I once did & what I "ought" to do. Part of that is wanting to keep up with some of the things that YOU guys are doing and longing to recapture some lost something.
Once again, comparison is the death of all things productive. Piss on that.

Here's to a Good Friday and and peaceful, productive weekend

Rest & peace.

Ironically some of us guys are wanting to keep up with what YOU are doing. I tend to think if I'm even half as strong as Pops is when I'm that old then I've done something right. And if my kids want to work out with me every once in a while then things might not be that bad. From what we see here you've got a good thing going. Keep looking ahead.

Saturday 9.16.17

Blue Collar Conditioning

10 rounds

Tabata 30 sec work/30 sec rest

alternate exercise each round

Battlerope slams

Tire flips (avg about 7 flips)

5 minutes rest. mostly to curl up and stretch out my lower back thats tighter than a hillbilly banjo string right now...

10 rounds

Tabata 20 sec work/ 20 sec rest

alternate exercise each round

Sledgehammer swings-16# hammer-alt right then left (avg 12 swings)

KB swings-50# (avg 15 swings)

There it is, That's a cash in or a cash out for some of you overactive overachieving GPP consumed fire-breathing lovable bastards that I call Brothers in Arms.

But it's better than nothing.

The penciled in plan will call for the major lifts on MWF. Tuesday could be either a vanity day of arms and abs and neck or some conditioning but nothing too taxing for my crappy sleep patterns. Thursday is an off day. Saturday needs to be a conditioning, GPP day that can be a little more taxing because I have the whole day & Sunday to recover.

But hey who knows?

debating on renting the GGG-Alvarez fight tonight...Predictions anybody?

Pops, you wrote what I have been thinking. Its a strange feeling to look into the mirror and see an old man. It seems as if there are two worlds, the young mans world and an old mans world. I feel as though my job is done. My kids are grown and absorbed into the ecosystem. If it weren't for my wife, I'd slip into the shadows and never be seen again. Until then, I'm going to be as strong and lethal as I can be...

As for your "comparison" theory, well, I'm still on the fence about that one... :)

Stu, we're not done...

Hell, this new generation can't read a map or even get to the toilet without their phone telling them where to go and when to wipe their ass.

Besides, somebody needs to be there to holler GET OFF MY LAWN. Might as well be me.

Thx for the encouragement. Carry on

Your squat numbers are getting ridiculous - nice work my friend -

By the way, stop sending your shit heat this way.  We northern folks are not used to it and the swamp ass it creates is not pleasant.....  Could be the hottest day of the year for WI on the 1st day of Fall.  Stay cool my friends

PSS - Son just got the nod for starting safety, good lord I hope the kid is faster than I give him credit for.  Cue anxiety...

Stupid heat & humdity. September may be hotter than August.
Just yell at the cornerbacks "DO YOUR FUCKING JOB!" (Let me know how that goes...)
For my oldest 7th grade was the year his feet grew to man hood but his body stayed 12. Couldn't walk to the locker room without falling down. Had to time his ass with a sun dial. The good news is he finished high school with a high 4.5/40. There's hope...just not this year. Good luck. My advice? Have beer in the fridge when you get home.

But I digress.
Friday 9.22.17

Squat 4x4x80%. Supposed to be 3 sets. Stupid math.
45/135/225/335/335/335/335 x 4

Bench 4x4x85%
45/135/225/245/245/245/245 x 4
The only pause was getting this shit off my chest. Last set was the best.

DL
135/225/315/370 x 4
Grip & rip. Don't think. Thinking is not good when lifting heavy shit. Your mind is your enemy. Pull like hell.

Other news...
Day 2 on the MyFitnessPal wagon. The struggle is real dammit. I truly truly don't care WHAT I weigh as much as I care where it is. Still, this bad boy has always helped me dial my stuff in & get on track.

That's it.
Make it good.
